Tumbarumba, in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, is one of Australia's premium cool-climate wine-growing regions, home to over 30 vineyards.
1988. A group of Sydney businessmen, all wine enthusiasts, visit the area. After sampling the local wines they set themselves a challenge: to grow grapes and make wine equal to the best cool climate wines on the market. As Tumbarumba has growing conditions similar to France's Burgundy region, they know their task is achievable.
Tumbarumba Wine Estates is born.
They plant the largest vineyard in Tumbarumba's fledgling wine-growing area and over a period of 3 years plant 62,000 vines comprising Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
