Shiraz Cabernet is The Great Australian Red. It was first championed in Australia in the late 1800s as generic clarat and resurrected in the 1950 and in 1962 Max Schubert, the creator of Grange, made what he said was the greatest wine of his career. That blend of Coonawarra Cabernet and Barossa Shiraz was the 1962 Penfolds Bin 60A, and is thier most successful show wine.
The Great Australian Red Competition was established by young wine writers Tyson Stelzer and Matthew Jukes in 2008. Join Tyson and taste the winners of this years challenge during the launch of their new book, Taste Food and Wine 2009. Each dinner will feature medal winners from the competition alongside local produce.
