The king of pop is dead. Age 50 – it may seem old to some, but it’s too young to die, especially for one with such prodigious talent. Chances are you learnt the news on your computer, Blackberry or iPhone.

What isn’t delivered on the internet these days? You can even fall in love online. And does the reality meet the expectations? Sometimes internet brides (and grooms?) are returned to sender, along with eBay items that didn’t quite match the product description. But more often than not, online users are more than satisfied.

It’s as much about the convenience and the experience as the items themselves – you can browse at your leisure, not be hassled by sales assistants (or lack of them), and presto! the items turn up a week or two later, without anything further to be done except unwrap and enjoy.

And so it is with VisitVineyards.com. Being online has a huge advantage over print – we can stay fresh, and keep you up to date with wine travel experiences around the country. No guidebook is current as soon as it’s printed. Events get changed, wines sell out, restaurants close. We list over 3400 wineries and vineyards around the country, and the list changes every week (sadly, this year for the first time in decades we might see more closures than new cellar doors opening).

On top of that there’s a myriad of regional restaurants, food makers, cafes, provedores and more tucked away – and accommodations that are wonderful but never make it into the listings of Wotif.com or corporate travel sites. Want choice? There are over 30,000 products on our website for you to choose from, and the list changes constantly.

But we don’t expect you to do the work – we help you find what's open, when and where; to sort the best from the rest; unearth the hidden gems; and to find out what's on. Our new national calendar of wine and food events is already the biggest in Australia. Want to plan your next break around a concert or a jazz night at a cute little winery? Heading north for some winter sun but want a good restaurant with a decent winelist? Locate the best wood-fired pizza at a cellar door? You can find them all here, and more to reinvigorate your soul.

So, don’t let the GFC drag you down. Sure, most people have been affected in some way or another, and those who haven’t are not being so conspicuous. But we all need a lift of the spirits. Slow food, fine wines – maybe less but better quality – a treat at a spa, or a weekend away in an eco-friendly report to unwind and recharge. Your choice – it’s all here.

Become a Member of VisitVineyards.com online and we’ll do the rest - your passport to wine country will arrive in the mail, ready for you enjoy some exclusive experiences on your next trip to wine country (you’ll get a temporary Membership to use straight away). We won’t tell.

Even if you are seriously cocooning at home this winter, you can subscribe for free, access our recommendations and reviews, and receive a treat or two.

The king of pop may be dead and the GFC affecting our options, but we all have to eat and drink …. and feeling special – well, that never goes out of style.
