Australia?s largest ever Penfolds Grange auction!

1998 is not the only vintage!

A remarkable collection of Australia?s greatest wine, Penfolds Grange, will be sold at auction online at www.langtons.com.au closing on July 14, 2003. The sale is now open and is Australia?s largest ever auction of Grange.

The sale comprises the most extensive offering of Grange ever offered at auction. It includes every vintage of Grange released including - rare single bottles from the 1950s, a complete collection of Grange 1951 to 1998 (some bottles originating from the private cellar of Max Schubert the creator of Grange), over 80 magnums from the inaugural 1979 vintage to 1998, four extremely rare imperials from the 1975, 1985 and 1993 vintages and full multiple case lots of vintages from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Specialist wine auctioneer and Grange expert, Stewart Langton, comments: ?This is very close to the definitive Grange auction. The sheer size and scope of this sale is quite breathtaking.?

Langton?s catalogue of over 588 lots is available now at www.langtons.com.au. Buyers can access the catalogue and bid online using Langton?s critically acclaimed online auction service. Unlike traditional live auctions, online buyers can find a full library of Penfolds Grange tasting notes, vintage reports, photographs of individual lots and a comprehensive database of previous Grange prices all integrated interactively with individual lot offerings. Bidding is easy and in real time emulating all the benefits of live auctions including a competitive and exciting (electronic) auction floor. Bidding opens on Friday June 13 with just over four weeks to bid and compete before the auction closes at 6pm Australian Eastern Standard Time on Monday July 14, 2003.

Stewart Langton says: ?Langton?s forthcoming Penfolds Grange auction illustrates how the online medium is able to educate and thereby empower buyers. Buyers can now make informed decisions based on meaningful information and expert advice that is only a mouse click away. We expect this auction to attract buyers from all over the world but especially from our home market. Australians are profoundly proud of Penfolds Grange. It embraces both traditional values and innovation. Grange is in every respect an Australian icon.?

Penfolds Grange is the cornerstone of the Australian secondary wine market. By the mid 1960s Grange could be found in most wine collector?s cellars. Today it is regarded as one of the world?s most important wines rivaling the great classified growths of Bordeaux and Burgundy. The 1955 vintage was listed by the American wine consumer advocate Wine Spectator as one of the greatest wines of the 20th century. Penfolds Grange has won such accolades numerous times and is the only wine to be heritage-listed by the South Australian Government. Grange also unassailably heads Langton?s Classification of Australian Wine, an internationally recognized benchmark listing of ultra-fine Australian wine.
