Mandala Wines Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

Sip six of the Yarra Valley’s finest from Mandala Estate, celebrate the cool climate wines on the Mornington Peninsula or discover the secrets of salmon.

Given the festive season is upon us, we're extending this competition (and the number of prizes) until the end of January when one lucky VisitVineyards.com subscriber will win six wines from Mandala, in the Yarra Valley: two bottles of Sauvignon Blanc 2007, one 2006 Chardonnay. two 2006 Pinot Noir and a 2006 Cabernet Merlot.

Second prize is one of three family passes to the fantastic Red Hill Show and staying with the Mornington Peninsula, third prize is one of three double passes to the International Cool Climate Wine Show Public Tasting.  Fourth prize is one of three copies of Huon Aquaculture's Connoisseur's Guide to Salmon.

FIRST PRIZE - wines from Mandala

Mandala means circle and when you start tasting these fine wines, you’ll have joined an enlightened circle yourself.  Coming from the heart of the Yarra Valley, Mandala Wines are the result not only of superb and much sought after fruit from twenty year old vines, but they represent the family’s sharing of experiences and their quest to achieve balance.

One lucky subscriber will win this mix of wines and discover Mandala’s joy of simple pleasures: The two bottles of Sauvignon Blanc 2007 (RRP A$18 each plus postage) are fresh. clean and bright wines. There's tropical fruit on the nose and a crisp, lingering palate. The bottle of Chardonnay 2006  (RRP A$25 plus postage) typifies the best of modern Yarra Valley Chardonnay. It has a well integrated, balanced palate with a subtle hint of oak.

Mandala's reds will give you pleasure as well:  The two bottles of Pinot Noir 2006  (RRP A$25 each plus postage)  have all the hallmark characters of the style being a bright, vibrant wine with ripe red berries on the nose and smooth fine tannins on the palate. The bottle of Cabernet Merlot 2006 (RRP A$20 plus postage) highlights the cabernet  character with the merlot grapes adding softness and finesse.

All these wines can be cellared for between 2-5 years, depending on style, but as per their makers' philosophy they're all ready to be enoyed when celebrating the simple pleasures in life, whenever that is.

SECOND PRIZE - family pass to Red Hill Show

The Red Hill Show celebrates the many facets of regional Australia. Whether you're couple with food and wine on your mind or looking for a family day filled with activities, head to the Mornington Peninsula on the 28th March 2009 to experience one of the best agricultural shows in the country.

MP Gourmet will have food and wine available throughout the grounds and in between tasting the local delights you can take your pick of entertainment, exhibitions and demonstrations. The range of activities is huge and very interesting - from the Dog High Scramble to the reptile demonstration, working craft exhibitions, heritage machinery and something that would no doubt appeal to VisitVineyards subscribers - grape stomping!

We've got three family passes to be won (2 adults and 2 children under 18), valued at A$40.

THIRD PRIZE - double pass to the International Cool Climate Wine Show Public Tasting

Once the judging’s finished and the winners are celebrating, the range of cool climate wines that have been under the spotlight are made available for the public to taste.

Wines are coming from all over Australia but they'll be up against entries from New Zealand and the northern hemisphere - how will they stack up against our home-grown wines?  Was the local pinot particularly good his year? How about that sparkling from Tasmania?

The judges will have their own answers to these questions but you could win a double pass to the ICCWS Public Tasting on Wednesday 25th February 2009 and then judge for yourself. With a superb range of wines on offer, you'll be guaranteed to pick some winners of your own.

Enter now for your chance to win one of 3 double passes (valued at $30 double).

FOURTH PRIZE (3 copies to be won)

Huon Aquaculture has produced a superb pocket sized guide to salmon. The $10 price tag belies the value and depth of information hidden within its soft cover and not to mention the delicious recipes. Just how do you pick the freshest, best quality salmon? Should smoked salmon have rack marks? And what is the real difference between hot and cold smoking?

This book, which is peppered with some glorious Tasmanian images and features an introduction by Tetsuya Wakuda - a recommendation on quality in itself - provides the answers to these questions and so much more about salmon and its intimate companions.

With tips on tools and utensils, what to look for in each of the different style of salmon (fresh, hot and cold smoked) along with which cheese, pastry, wine or beer is best suited to each - it's a bible for the salmon lover.

Your prizes will be posted to you anywhere in Australia or overseas for books. We regret we are cannot post wine, food or beer overseas.
