FIRST PRIZE: Mornington Peninsula wines (2 half dozens to be won)

The Mornington Peninsula undoubtably produces some of Australia's best pinot noir and Dromana Estate's Pinot is amongst the finest. Dromana Estate was started in 1982 and soon demonstrated the Peninsula's ability to produce premium cool climate wines.

One lucky Member will win half a dozen bottles of 2007 Dromana Estate Pinot Noir and whilst tasting notes speak of lifted charcters of spice, strawberry and dark cherry on the nose and a sumptuous and complex cherry, strawberry, mushroom and spicy oak palate, we think the winner will simply enjoy one of the finest pinots from the Mornington Peninsula.

Another Member will win half a dozen wines from Red Hill Estate - three bottles of 2006 Chardonnay and three bottles of 2007 Pinot Noir. This boutique vineyard sits atop Red Hill in a stunning location with arguably one of the best views from a vineyard anywhere. Now views don't necessarily make great wine but add in the Mornington Peninsula's climate, a long history of viticulture in this location and a philisophy of working closely with the region and environment, and superb wines will ultimately be the result.

Winners of either of these outstanding Mornington Peninsula wines will certainly be sipping on some of the best.

SECOND PRIZE: Everyday Drinking by Kingsley Amis (2 copies to be won)

Christopher Hitchins, in the introduction to Everyday Drinking, describes Kingsley Amis as "your man" when it comes to the subject of drink. This combination of three books written from1971 to 1984 covers the many and varied aspects of the habit, peculiar to the human race - that is, the art and practice of imbibing.

He's not always what you'd term polictically correct and nor are the prices and availabiltiy of some of the drinks he discusses correct, but his writing and wit carry you along with the occasional chuckle and sometimes wonder as to whether he's really serious about his suggestions. Just the names of the chapters give hint at what insights are contained within: "Tools of the Trade"," Mean Sod's Guide", "The Hangover" and "How Not to Get Drunk". And then there's the collection of articles Kingsley wrote for the New York Times plus quizzes sure to make you look the knowledgable host of a dinner party.

So if you want to discover just how to make The Dizzy Lizzy, why you should really shake and not stir a martini, and generally learn a lot about the spirits of the world and wines not usually on your horizon, then enter now and you could be on your way to understanding a little more about the world of social drinking in the 70s and 80s. We have two copies of Everyday Drinking to be won so enter now.

THIRD PRIZE: Double pass to Fed Square Wine Showcase (2 to be won)

Whether you're a wine buff or simply enjoy tasting new wines and meeting the winemakers, and you live in Melbourne, then the first Wednesday and Thursday of each month should be highlighted your calendar. If you're planning a trip to this fair city, then make sure your dates include these days! Each month the Fed Square Wine Showcase brings together wines from a featured Victorian wine region so you can taste and discuss the similarities and pecularities with the winemakers from that region.

VisitVineyards.com has two double passes to be won this month and the great part is that you can use these at any of the Showcases until December 2009. Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges will feature in April, followed by the North East Victorian region in May but you might want to save them until later in the year - perhaps checking out Bendigo in September or Heathcote in December. It's your choice!
