So, a social planner and his new wife go to the top of a hill in South Australia's Clare Valley. The husband starts thinking Bacchus amat colles* and love at first sight for the second time. Fast forward past that life-changing decision by Burt and Jeni Surmon and the panorama that took their breath away now includes a vineyard and winery, cellar door/art gallery and a function centre.

The tale of hard yakka, steep learning curves and joy that were part of their journey are regaled by Burt in On a Clare Day: a vine change story and we have two copies to be won.

You might be inspired to make your own life-changing decisions – vines, trees or sea – or just want to travel in your mind the path of those have done it.

When you're new to growing grapes and making wine there's just a bit to grasp: soil types, vine selection, occupational health and safety, climate, marketing and the long list goes on. Oh, and don't forget how to get those stray pigs and deer out from amongst the vines...

Thankfully Burt and Jeni were always optimtistic, not afraid of hard work and willing to take the inevitable setbacks.

But this is not just a tale of life's journey in words but in food too with mouth-watering recipes enjoyed along the way.

Enter now and you could be curling up by the winter's fire, glass of wine in one hand, this book in the other and perhaps thinking about a different life...

*Bacchus amat colles translates to Bacchus (god of agricultre and wine) loves the hills.
