Solitary occupies one of the most fortunate sites in the Blue Mountains, perched above the Leura Cascades on the scenic Cliff Drive between Leura and Katoomba with views which extend uninterruptedly across Jamison Valley to the Southern Highlands of New South Wales.
Solitary Restaurant's dining room and garden offer the most magnificent views imaginable, overlooking Mount Solitary, Kings Tableland, and the Jamison Valley all the way to the Southern Highlands. The building is heritage listed, a characteristically slate hipped-roofed, weatherboard Blue Mountains cottage set in a garden. The interior can, perhaps, be best described as light, airy, quietly sophisticated and tranquil, while respecting the history of the building.
The restaurant is open daily for light lunches, morning and afternoon tea and Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. Chefs John Cross and David Povelsen believe it is their role to take fine produce, grow as much as they can themselves, treat it simply, with respect and make it flavourful.
If you plan on visiting Solitary Restaurant staff recommend you do not put their address into your GPS instead use the name of the restaurant to avoid getting lost.
