Wine lovers are invited to tour the Hastings River region so they don't miss out on the 2019 vintage wines!  The quality is high but yields are down.

The growing season started in spring 2018 with extremely low soil moisture due to record low rainfall in August.  We took this as a warning to irrigate early to help the vines through budburst and flowering and to avoid stress.

The early evidence of increased bud numbers compared to 2018 was dampened by what appreared to be lower berry set than hoped for. Little did we know then that the lack of rain would continue. While this is good growing weather with little disease pressure it did not fare well for good bunch weights at harvest.

So to borrow Bago Vineyards' quote "We're keeping it short and sweet this month – much like the fruit picked this vintage.”

All vineyards have reported that grape/wine flavours are terrific but there is not a lot of yield. The birds and bats relentlessly sought out the grapes and it was only those vineyards that were fully netted that came out unscathed.

So the moral to the story is: come and tour the region to try the wines, so you don’t miss out!
