Millamolong Estate provided a majestic backdrop in hosting some of world's best polo players last weekend.
Ten polo teams contested a two day tournament, culminating in the feature event, Australia vs. The Rest of the World.
In previous years, the Millamolong Polo Club has hosted a game between the Young Australia side and Canada but this is the first time that senior national side has ridden on the Millamolong field.
“It was a well fought match, enjoyed by a good sized crowd,” commented Millamolong owner James Ashton. “The 9 all draw was probably a fair result from such an exciting game.”
“Neither side was really favoured to win as the World team combined players who don't normally play together, while the Australian line-up hasn't played with this current combination before.”
Millamolong Estate has a rich history in Australian and international polo that started in the summer of 1930, when four Ashton brothers embarked on an ambitious quest to represent Aupolo in England. These 4 Horsemen succeeded in putting Australian polo on the world stage and since this time the Ashtons, and the Millamolong Polo Club, have been a key supporter of Australian polo.
The polo theme is evident in the Millamolong Estate wines that were first released in 2000. The range comprises:
Millamolong Orange Region '26 Ponies' Chardonnay 2007
Millamolong Orange Region '24 Goals' Riesling 2007
Millamolong Orange Region '56 Miles' Shiraz 2007
Millamolong Orange Region ‘4 Horsemen' Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Millamolong Orange Region ‘Isabelle's Ghost' Merlot 2007
