The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) invites media representatives to attend the judging sessions of the 2010 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show.
Over 860 entries from around Australia will be judged in the Cheese & Dairy Produce Show, with all competitors vying for prestigious Sydney Royal recognition. 27 trophies and numerous Gold and Silver medals will be awarded in a number of classes covering milk, butter, cheese, yoghurt, dips, ice-cream and chocolate, including the prestigious Australian Cheeseboard Perpetual Trophy – awarded to the five Gold medal winning cheeses selected to comprise the Australian Cheeseboard.
This year's competition will also see the first ever Champion Butter Award be presented for the best butter in Show and the introduction of a Champion Bovine Cheese Award sponsored by Dairy Australia. There has also been the addition of a new chilli chocolate class in the chocolate category, which has seen a 25 per cent increase in the number of entries since last year.
Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show Chairman of Judges Peter Howard, says he is looking forward to the task of leading the team of 30 professional judges.
Mr Howard will also be on hand to welcome this year's international guest judge, Mr Carlo Guffanti Fiori, an expert cheese maker from Italy.
The judges have the enviable task of sampling this vast selection to find the best dairy products from around Australia. Some of the exhibits on offer this year include a club cheese duo of wasabi and chilli, a traditional Cypriot Easter cheese, and a selection of new gelatos including berry pavlova, salted pistachio nut and lamington flavours.
