Colourful, cosmopolitan and modern, Tel Aviv is a city full of contrasts, fragrances, stories and flavours. It's a vibrant melting pot of cultures, religions and delicious culinary traditions.

Come on a culinary journey of this extraordinary city with world-renowned European restaurateur Haya Molcho and her four sons, and discover the special spirit of the city's many cuisines and inhabitants.

You’ll meet Tel Aviv's local chefs and story-tellers, and Haya revisits the recipes of her home town, re-creating the flavours of her childhood including Knafeh; Green Shakshuka; Sarma; Israeli Paella; Pickled Lemons and much more.

In preparation for this book Haya and her sons lived for two weeks in the rhythm of the city. All 150 dishes were prepared there, all the ingredients purchased from local markets, and the contributors range from the epicures and the urban forager, to the magician and the survivor.

If London has Ottolenghi; Paris has Miznon; and Jerusalem, Machneyuda, then Vienna has NENI.

Founded in March 2009 by the indefatigable Haya Molcho and her sons, NENI has become the go-to restaurant in Vienna for eclectic Israeli and Middle Eastern cuisine. With NENI, the Molchos also became pioneers, introducing the kaleidoscopic Israeli palette to an Austrian audience.

About the author

Haya Molcho loves to cook and to travel. Born in Tel Aviv, she relocated frequently and was always on the move, with her parents as a child, then as an adult, alone, and later with her husband, the mime artist Samy Molcho.

On her travels she experienced the cuisines of the world and developed her unique culinary style: typically Israeli, yet also international. In 2009 she opened the first NENI restaurant in Vienna's Naschmarkt with her sons, Nuriel, Elior, Nadiv and Ilan.

The idea of bringing Mediterranean and Levantine food culture to Europe's cities was a success: today there are NENI restaurants in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Zurich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Mallorca and  Paris, as well as a cooking school and product lines.
