Keenly anticipated each year by winemakers, collectors and wine lovers, the Halliday Wine Companion is recognised nationally as the industry benchmark. The 2018 edition has been completely revised to bring you up-to-the-minute information for 10,000 plus wines that were tasted.

In his inimitable style, Halliday shares his extensive knowledge of wine through detailed tasting notes, each with vintage-specific ratings and advice on optimal drinking as well as each wine’s closure, alcohol content and price. The book also provides more than 1237 winery profiles (including 78 new wineries), with information about winemakers, vineyard sizes, opening times and contact details.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Respected wine critic and vigneron James Halliday AM has a career that spans over 45 years, but he’s most widely known for his witty and informative writing about wine.

As one of the founders of Brokenwood in the Hunter Valley, and thereafter of Coldstream Hills in the Yarra Valley, James is an unmatched authority on every aspect of the wine industry, from the planting and pruning of vines through to the creation and marketing of the finished product.  His winemaking has led him to sojourns in Bordeaux and Burgundy, and he had a long career as a wine judge in Australia and overseas.

In 1995 James Halliday received the wine industry’s ultimate accolade, the Maurice O’Shea Award, and in 2010 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.

James has written or contributed to more than 75 books on wine since he began writing in 1970. His books have variously been translated into Mandarin, Japanese, French, German, Danish, Icelandic and Polish, and have been published in the UK and the US, as well as in Australia.

The Halliday Wine Companion, published by Hardie Grant, (Sydney, NSW; Aug 2018; pb; 776pp) is available to purchase all good booksellers nationally for RRP A$39.99.
