Qantas wins Best First Class Cellar and Best Business Class Cellar awards

Qantas has taken out Best First Class Cellar and Best Business Class Cellar at the 2010 Cellars in the Sky Awards in London.
Qantas also won awards for Consistency of Wines Across Business and First Class, Best First Class White (the Wigan Eden Valley Riesling 2004), First Class Red (Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2006) and First Class Sparkling (Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 1999), collecting a total of six out of the 15 awards.
The Qantas Wine Program is led by an expert panel of wine industry judges and respected winemakers, Tom Carson (Yabby Lake), Vanya Cullen (Cullen Wines) and Stephen Pannell (S.C. Pannell).
The program showcases the diversity and quality of the Australian wine industry and the Qantas list is one of Australia's most prestigious with over 250 specially selected Australian wines. Members of the Qantas Wine Panel pride themselves on continually developing the program enabling Qantas customers to experience a wide selection of wines, from the latest cutting-edge wines made by boutique winemakers to the iconic drops that form the very base of Australia’s great winemaking legacy.
Qantas also goes to exceptional lengths to ensure its customers are provided with detailed information about what they are drinking by producing the Qantas Inflight Guide to Wine and educating cabin crew via the Qantas Sommeliers in the Sky program.
The Qantas Sommeliers in the Sky program is a wine education course which enables cabin crew to develop their wine knowledge which is comparable to some of the best restaurant sommeliers in the world.
In 2005, Qantas became the first airline to be awarded the Cellars in the Sky Best First Class and Business Class Wine List, and has continued to win awards year after year, including Best Presented Wine List last year.
Qantas invests over $25 million dollars in the Australian Wine industry every year through the Qantas Wine Program.
The Cellars in the Sky Awards have been running since 1985, with a record number of 36 airlines taking part in 2010. The internationally esteemed competition recognises the best red, white, sparkling and fortified and dessert wine served in the air.
