Pisa Range Estate is a producer of fine wine from Central Otago, New Zealand.

Central Otago is the only wine region in New Zealand with a continental climate. The hot dry summers, cold winters and long cool autumns provide the ideal conditions for the notoriously fickle pinot noir grape. The large diurnal temperature variation - the difference between daytime and night time temperatures - contributes to flavour intensity and depth of colour. Seasons are monitored closely together with the wine this site produces, in an effort to understand the 'terroir'. Results so far are very encouraging.

Pisa Range Estate is a family-owned boutique vineyard established in 1995 by Warwick and Jenny Hawker. Warwick is a retired New Zealand diplomat and together with his wife Jenny they have served in many countries around the world.

They are pioneer grape-growers of the Pisa sub-region – a warm district of the Cromwell Basin - adjacent to Lake Dunstan and nestled at the base of the snow-capped Pisa Range. Planting began in 1995 under the guidance of the late Mike Wolter who acted as Consultant and Vineyard Manager. The Estate is a series of flat and terraced land with pinot noir the dominant grape variety. Aromatic white varieties will soon be in production. An ongoing challenge they say, is understanding their ‘terroir' which has become a passion for both.

Research continues to improve vineyard practices with the aim of producing long lasting, fine Estate wines. Advice is sought from industry leaders such as Larry McKenna (a leading New Zealand pinot noir specialist) who acts as Vineyard Consultant.
