Wine and food news and reviews

Appetite for Excellence 2013 It's all good news!  From organic dairying in Victoria, accolades for Australia's whisky state, the next generation of culinary stars to new wine and food books and a very important question about wine quality:

(Try your hand at recipes from two of the winners in the tasting notes and recipe sections on right – one's an awesome cocktail! )

ODFA butter Books we've loved lately:

Do you start your day with a coffee, as so many of us do, without really giving any thought as to where it actually comes from?

Vale:

On a sad note, a hug for our friends at Puddleduck Vineyard on the loss of beloved wine dog Bazil after a good innings of almost 17 years. Always a welcoming face and paw at the cellar door.

But congratulations too, as Jackie Brown of Puddleduck is one of 12 SMEs around Australia to be selected for Facebook's small business accelerator program (and the only winery/vineyard). And even better as Jackie learnt about this opportunity on our VisitVineyards facebook page and entered as a result! Well done!!

Winemakers' Federation seeks feedback

Picnic in the vineyards

Are you in the wine industry? As we all know, things have been tough in the past five years, and NOW is your chance to provide some input. Some of you have told us in our July-August survey, now it's your chance to let the Winemakers' Federation know what you think.

There are two reports you need to read: I'd recommend starting on the 'Expert Review Report' (which is pretty heavy going) and then reading the 'WFA Actions Paper' to see how the WFA propose to act on the findings. You can download both on WFA's website here, plus the schedule for consultation in SA, Vic and NSW »

You have until Friday 18th October to provide feedback to the WFA Board. Consulations are planned NSW, Vic and SA between 1-10 October (bad luck if you are in WA, Tas or Qld). Here's the pdf schedule from the WFA website »

If you'd rather do you own marketing and want to learn more about social media, why not join our Social Media + Wine group on facebook? There are over 400 members posting tips and asking questions, it's all free and you can just look.

Or for those of you who'd rather just drink the stuff, eat good food and have an occasional chat,  you can drop by the VisitVineyards facebook page and talk to Kerry and Robyn here »

Enjoy spring, and we look forward to hearing from you – cheers from Robyn, Kerry, Andrew, Laura and the VV team.
