Roma (elevation 300m) is situated on the western slope of the Great Dividing Range, about 500km west of Brisbane. Romavilla's vineyards are on the northern edge of Roma on the flood plain of the Bungil Creek which runs down from the hills around Injune to the north.
Romavilla Winery was established in 1863 and today proudly produces a wide variety of table wines such as Riesling, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Crouchen, Garganega, Zinfandel, Shiraz, Merlot, and Cabernet, as well as fortified wines - Tawny Ports, Muscats, Madeira and Sherry.
Romavilla Winery has adopted a mixture of the traditional methods of handcrafted winemaking, as well as utilising some modern equipment, and technologies. The biggest and most important addition to the process was the introduction of refrigeration. Being able to cool the must immediately after crushing, as well as controling fermentation temperatures, has been seen the biggest increase in the quality of their wines. Controlling the fermentation temperatures also allows the specific varietal characteristics of each variety to shine through in the wine.
