The Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival is a three day street party in Stanthorpe, the capital of Queensland's Granite Belt.
Stanthorpe is one of those surprising towns, known as the coldest town in Queensland. Located 1,000 metres above sea level, brings temperatures as low as minus 12 in winter; is it any wonder the region is so suited to growing some of the finest crisp Apples and Wine Grapes in Australia.
The Apple and Grape Harvest Festival is a blooming big party, celebrating the harvest of Apples and Wine Grapes in March. This free entry event (except for the Gala Ball) is held every 2 years and has a proven track record to please the masses time and time again. It's a three day event with something for everyone and up to 80,000 people are estimated to attend the festival.
Come early Friday and take part in Apple Day, with competitions in Apple Peeling and Apple Pie making and then dress in your finery for the Gala Ball.
Saturday: kick back in the park and enjoy live music while sipping on fine Granite Belt wines; check out the street stalls and the local art and craft markets. Join the crowds in the main street to watch the Grand Parade and the celebrity challenge Grape Crush. Saturday night is topped off with a fireworks spectacular and live music till late in the park and various venues around town.
Sunday: more food, wine and entertainment in the park, street stalls and local art and craft markets right through the day. Every day: visit the Art Gallery for the Stanthorpe Art Festival and take a stroll down the main streets of Stanthorpe where the Decorated Shop Windows Competition is keenly contested.
There's so much more to see, taste and be a part of but you'll just have to find out for yourself.
