Felsberg Winery and Vineyards, situated on the slopes of the high country in the Granite Belt (900-m altitude),Southern Downs, Queensland, is one of the highest wineries in Australia
Felsberg Winery is a truly boutique enclosed within a remarkable Bavarian style building located half way up the granite boulder strewn hillside. The winery itself has a large number of small tanks which lend themselves perfectly to the production of very small parcels of quality wine.
The name 'Felsberg' is a German expression for a 'rocky hill or mountain'. The Felsberg vineyard was first planted in 1983 by the Haag Family and you can easily see that many of the plantings have had to be squeezed in amongst the many granite boulders that are scattered across the property. The 15 acres of grape varieties planted are Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. There are also some very small parcels of other varieties that may appear on the label from time to time.
