Australians remember the twentieth century through the iconic photographs captured by Captain Frank Hurley. He accompanied Mawson and Shackleton in search of the South Pole, visited the battlefields of France and the Middle East during the World Wars, caught the last leg of Ross and Keith Smith's epic flight from England and explored the Northern Territory, Torres Straight and Papua New Guinea.
Director of USQ's Public Memory Research Centre and Associate Dean (Research), Professor Chris Lee has a special interest in Australian legends and, together with Robert Dixon (University of Sydney) he has edited The Frank Hurley Diaries, which will be published by Anthem Press.
Drawing on extracts from manuscript diaries and Hurley's photographs, Professor Lee will explore Hurley's controversial contribution to the ANZAC legend. Join us for a fascinating glimpse into Captain Frank Hurley's experience of the 'war to end all wars'.
