The heat is on

Record temperatures hit vintage

Subscribe to VisitVineyards.com

If you're at home or the office in Melbourne or Adelaide, you're probably feeling the heat. But spare a thought for the winemakers, vignerons and everyone already working vintage,  in the Barossa and other regions where the grape harvest has already started.

Those who had been waiting another week or two to bring in the grapes will now be getting them in before the 40+ degree temperatures continue - expected for the remainder of the week. Yesterday, Ceduna - north west of Adelaide - reached 47.4C; hot enough but just short of South Australia's all-time record of 50.7C, recorded in Oodnadatta in 1960.

In Adelaide it was still 36C at 3 am this morning. A cold beer, anyone?

Let's hope we all get some respite soon.
