Discover permanent waterholes, red earth gorges and native vegetation at Red Banks Conservation Park, just 15 kilometres east of Burra.
Palaeontologists have described Red Banks as one of richest mega fauna sites in Australia.
A diverse assemblage of fossilised mega fauna remains are conserved within the park. Follow the Landscape of Change interpretive walk to learn about the landscapes as they were 65,0000 years ago and explore theories as to why these animals became extinct.
Another special feature is the park's two stunning red-coloured, deeply cut meandering creek lines which can reach 15 metres high. Look closely for visible layers in the soil profile, which are today giving scientists an insight into past climates.
Red Banks offers good opportunities to enjoy camping, picnicking and bushwalking. Keep your eyes open for Short-beaked Echidnas, Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats, Western Grey and Red Kangaroos and Euros along the trails.
