The Coonawarra Vignerons Association donate to the Wine Flood Relief Appeal
A day at the races for the Australian Wine Trade Flood Relief Raffle
Media release
The Coonawarra Vignerons Association donated almost $11,000 recently to the Flood Relief Appeal.
At the running of the 30th Annual Coonawarra Cup in January, the rain outside was a constant reminder of the floods around the nation. The Coonawarra Vignerons came together on the day with members donating a bottle of their best wine, from the past 30 years, to be auctioned off.
In addition to these 24 wines raising $6500, some spirited guests raised even more money by doing a 'slip n’ slide' through a large puddle that had formed in front of the Vignerons Marquee. This created a frenzy of donations as the managing director of Rymill Coonawarra, John Rymill and 3 of his guests, created a big splash for all 700 visitors to see.
Throughout the day the 'wine bucket' was also passed around and a grand total of $10,887 was raised.
The funds will be donated through the Australian Wine Trade Flood Relief Raffle. The raffle, now closed, was set up as a joint collaboration between Tyson Stelzer of WinePress and Robyn Lewis of VisitVineyards.com.
Funds raised will be divided according to need between the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Fund and the Red Cross of Victoria, who are also administering relief aid to affected areas of NSW. Through the Australian Wine Industry, there were $240,000 in 200 prizes to be won through the raffle.
