Phillip and Judy Cross developed Angas Plains Estate, on their farming property in the heart of Langhorne Creek, a world renowned South Australian wine region, in 1994.

Langhorne Creek is the second largest grape growing district in South Australia which, although long established (commencing in 1852), has grown rapidly over the past twenty years. It is well recognised for the production of exceptional, full bodied red wines with soft tannins, and crisp fresh white wines.

Angas Plains Estate is a scenic fifty minute drive South East from Adelaide (via the Mt Barker turnoff to Strathalbyn, then just off the main Langhorne Creek Road). The cellar door is open daily, serving contemporary cuisine with a rustic flair to complement the wines. A boutique wine producer which can proudly boast a many awards and trophies with five star rating in James Halliday’s Wine Companion books of 2010 and 2011, as a high quality wine producer.

Owners Judy and Phil are passionate about Australian wine and the environment in which their grapes are grown and enjoy sharing that passion with others. They believe that sustaining the growing environment is of equal importance to producing quality fruit. Crops are grown between the rows of vines, adding organics to the soil and preventing erosion and straw mulching under the vines reduces water requirements, improves soil health and reduces the need for chemical sprays. Angas Plains Estate uses natural pest control including - a flock of native ducks that reside in their dam.

The team at Angas Plains Estate is committed to creating wines with dynamic flavours which can be enjoyed early but also have the structure to improve with cellaring. Winemaker Peter Douglas produces the wines to be fruit driven with a fine balance of the use of oak for maturation of the reds. The range includes Angas Plains Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Emily Cross Shiraz, PJ’s Sparkling Blanc de Blanc, PJ’s Unwooded Chardonnay, PJ’s Cabernet Sauvignon, PJ’s Shiraz and a fortified liqueur.

The Angas Plains team loves to share its passion of good wnd having fun; live music adds to the atmosphere most Sundays and there are various special events throughout the year. The grape stomping fun lunch held in March, for example, is a lively celebration perfect for those who want to get involved in a unique wine experience – get your toes right into the juice!

Come visit us soon or enjoy a bottle of Angas Plains Estate wine next time you find one on the wine list, we are sure you will not be disappointed. Cheers!
