Two of Rosemount Estate's acclaimed winemakers Matt Koch and Andrew Locke were named Bushing Kings at the 2012 CARTeSIAN McLaren Vale Wine Show Luncheon, held at Penny's Hill Winery.

The highly coveted prize of Bushing King is bestowed on the most awarded producer at the annual McLaren Vale Wine Show.

Matt Koch, Chief Winemaker and fellow Rosemount winemaker Andrew Locke accepted the "royal title" for their 2011 Nursery Project Mataro, along with 18 other awards for Rosemount Estate's selection of wines entered in the show.

International guest judge Dr Edward Ragg and Chairman of Judges Tom Carson led the strong panel through the judging process, tasting 700 entries over 3 days.

In his summary comments Dr Ragg commented on the diversity of the region as its unique feature.

"It's not just the increasing varietal mix but the styles of wines that can be found in McLaren Vale," he said. "Wines of freshness, vitality, balance, texture, intensity, complexity and length were very much in evidence among the medal and trophy winners of this show."

The small parcel Nursery Project Mataro has only recently been released. The wine was awarded 18.5 points out of a possible 20, receiving Gold and Trophy for Single Best Red Variety of the show.

Matt says he's honoured to receive such a highly sought after title.

"To be recognised amongst my peers, as well as achieving such a good show result, is a milestone achievement both personally and for the entire Rosemount Estate winemaking production and viticultural team," Matt said.

"This is outstanding recognition of our commitment to quality and a reward for our relentless passion for the McLaren Vale region which Rosemount proudly calls home."

Matt, who has almost 20 years winemaking history at Rosemount Estate, has been a strong advocate for the McLaren Vale wine region internationally and domestically.

The McLaren Vale Wine Show is the region's annual benchmark of wine quality, organised and run by a committee of 17 local volunteers, who are determined to showcase the excellence of the varieties, viticulture and the people behind the wines.
