Cardinham Estate vineyards and winery can be found at the northern end of the Clare Valley, in Stanley flat, in the Polish Hill River wine region of South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges.
Cardinham Estate was originally founded by Fred Dinham as a single vineyard of 60 acres in 1981. Now known as the Home Block, continuous improvement and land availability has seen Cardinham Estate develop into a 160 acre vineyard.
Noel and Heather moved to Clare, eventually living on the Home Block, to run the vineyards in what turned out to be truly hard times. With falling grape prices and an over supply of the wrong varieties things were very tight. They gave up a lot, but hard work prevailed and slowly the rewards were realised when Noel was able to purchase more land to develop and the boys would soon be home to help.
By the 1990's the whole family had started to work on the property, which now included the Stradbrooke vineyards, Russ' and Carters. Over many years a sense of family has been integral to the business, there is not a job that has not been done by one of them and it is still that way today.
In recent times the boys sister Tamara has joined the business and is working part time in the office and cellar door while bringing up her young family.
