The Cawdor vineyard is in the Adelaide Hills, near the small, quiet township of Echunga, some 34 kilometres south-east of Adelaide, and around 8 kilometres from historic Hahndorf.
Cawdor Wines was established in 1999 when the Calder family purchased 56 acres in the Adelaide Hills, near the township of Echunga . In fact the parcel of land was once part of an extensive acreage originally owned by one of South Australia 's viticultural pioneers John Barton Hack. Hack grew grapes on his Echunga property in the 1840's, and even sent a sample of his ‘Hock' to Queen Victoria .
