Horlin Smith Wines and Ardent Estates are located in Salisbury, in the North of Adelaide, South Australia.
Horlin Smith Wines source grapes from two Premium South Australian areas, the McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. These two areas are diversely different viticultural areas but wonderfully similar, as they both produce outstanding wines of intense varietal character. From the warm rich Cabernets and Shirazes of the McLaren Vale to steely fruit driven Sauvignon Blanc's & Chardonnay's of the Adelaide Hills.
The Horlin-Smith family has had a 25 year passion with the Adelaide Hills starting with Norman's Chais Clarendon range. Now that tradition continues with the award winning range of Ardent Estate wines.
Equally theirs is a love affair with the McLaren Vale district through the wonderful fruit purchased from the Light family's great vineyard in Baker's Gully. The McLaren Vale has the combination of ideal soil types and a beautiful sunny Mediterranean climate.
The Ardent range continues to gather accolades. At a recent wine tasting in Toronto for Wine Access Magazine, respected wine writer John Szabo not only reviewed all four wines submitted but rated them very highly. All four wines rated above a point score of 87 (and higher).
At a recent, wine tasting in Adelaide for Winestate magazine the Ardent Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 was rated 3 ½ Stars and the Ardent Estates Cabernet Franc 2004 3 Stars and “Top In Category”.
The 2005 Sydeny International Wine Show has also highlly commended Ardent Estate's Merlot 2003.
