The establishment of Nepenthe in Lenswood in the early '90s was the vision of the late Dr Ed Tweddell and the biggest venture in the Adelaide Hills (South Australia) since the Petaluma winery opened. Now under the stewardship of his son James, Nepenthe continues to build on impressive foundations. Since day one, the winemaking has been the domain of the highly respected Peter Leske.
Although the range ticks all the right boxes with regional stalwarts such as sauvignon blanc, there's real interest and variety to be found in classy curios such as zinfandel, tempranillo and a Bordeaux-style blend that proves the cabernet clan is not entirely disorientated in these parts. The bright, welcoming cellar door is made even more so by manager Kate Binns, one of the best in the business.
