Red Mud & Nelwood Wines are located in Paringa, in the Riverland wine region of South Australia's Lower Murray area.
Nelwood was most probably the name given by paddle-steamer skippers in the late 1800s and early 1900s to a wood-pile loading stop-over situated near the South Australian border. Today, Nelwood Vineyards is situated on that same bend of the Murray River, some 20 miles upstream from Renmark, co-existing in harmony with kangaroos, emus, wedge-tail eagles, parrots and a host of other wildlife. A feature is the vibrant red escarpment that meets the water's edge with its wetlands and redgum forests.
