The Barons of Barossa welcomed Bob McLean, Bernard Hickin and Andrew Caillard into their wine fraternity recently during the biennial Barossa Vintage Festival.

Since its founding in 1974, the wine fraternity has inducted 114 men and women in recognition of their contribution to the region, its wine, food and traditions.

Stephen Henschke, the fraternity’s Grand Master noted that each of the three have contributed enormously to the international reputation of the Barossa.'This is all about recognising them and their passion,' he said.

'Bob McLean has been our bigger than life international brand champion, raising awareness of the Barossa as Australia’s premier wine region wherever he goes and at any opportunity.

'Bernard has worked with the Orlando brand since he came to the region in 1989. Now Orlando’s chief winemaker and the global face of Jacobs Creek, he continues to act as a global ambassador for the Barossa.

'Andrew, through his pioneering work as a specialist fine wine auctioneer, has been a terrific advocate for the Barossa, supporting our endeavours in an objective, yet passionate manner.'

The evening’s epic celebrations began with a glass of Pol Roget Champagne, in a nod to Bob McLean’s work with that signature brand early in his career. The 155 guests were then treated to a special tasting of every Barossa wine listed in Langton’s Classification of Australian Wines V with their makers.

.A dinner of regional flavours followed, prepared by Barossa chefs Mark McNamara and Peter Clark, that included lamb raised on McLean’s barr-Eden property as well as McLean’s Farm Riesling, Steingarten Riesling and Caillard Mataro along with an impressive array of Barossa wines.
