The Coal Valley Vineyard is a small family owned and operated vineyard and cellar door scenically located at the Hobart end of the Coal River Valley wine touring route in Southern Tasmania.
Here you can try impressive cool climate wines with substance and style; gaze out over the vines and enjoy the sweeping views of the Coal River Valley; relax in the tranquillity and seclusion of the site and yet be only 15 minutes drive to the centre of Hobart, Salamanca and in the other direction to the historic village of Richmond.
Owner operators, Gillian and Todd Goebel, welcome visitors to the cellar door to enjoy the uniquely Tasmanian ambience and wine tastings either at the bar for a chat or relaxing out on the terrace from 11am to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday, October through to March.
The first block of vines at Coal Valley was planted in 1991 by Drs. Gradon and Margaret Johnston who recognized a good vineyard site when they saw one. Gill and Todd have developed more hectares and now have a 5 hectare vineyard with steep north facing slopes planted out mainly to pinot noir and riesling but also chardonnay, tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
Gill and Todd’s aim is to make the best wine they possibly can and know that good wine starts in the vineyard. They are focused on sustainable agricultural practices and all Coal Valley Vineyard wines are made from the single site, estate grown fruit and the vines are hand pruned and the grapes are handpicked.
