Nick Glaetzer, winemaker at Frogmore Creek, Tasmania has launched his new label : Glaetzer-Dixon Family Winemakers. The Dixon is from his wife, Sally, a partner in the venture.
Early promise has borne fruit for Nick and Sally - in September 2011 Nick was named Young Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller Magazine, and in October 2011, the pair achieved am amazing coup, with Nick's Mon Pere Shiraz taking out the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Show, in its 50th year.
This is the first time in the history of the awards (dating back to 1962) that a Tasmanian wine has won the Jimmy Watson Trophy.
Grapes come from the Coal River Valley of Southern Tasmania and wines are made at Frogmore Creek (Hood Wines). Nick sources his shiraz grapes from vines planted in the early 1970s, in the Coal River Valley and in the Upper Derwent Valley.
Distribution in Tasmania is by Gulp Wines. Visit also Glaetzer Wines in the Barossa Valley of South Australia.
