Milford Vineyard is set beside the sea at the mouth of the Coal River Valley in Southern Tasmania. Established in 1984, this 1.2 ha vineyard specialises totally in pinot noir.
The sandy soil over a calcareous base and cooling sea breezes in summer produce a fine, elegant wine which has won many medals since the first vintage in 1992, including a Gold at the Royal Hobart Wine Show in the difficult vintage of 1996. A scarce wine and highly sought after.
Milford is also home to the increasingly (in)famous Wine Dog, MOG (short for Matter Other than Grapes), who has recently been catapulted to canine fame by the book and website www.winedogs.com, where he features alongside the great Robert Parker's wine dog Buddy.
MOG was also a Dog of the Month in UK Decanter magazine in 2010, and is thus officially more well-known that our wine, even though his nose is nowhere near as refined.
