Tasting notes - Nocton Park (Tas)
Nocton Park is in the Coal River Valley wine region of south east Tasmania. The long warm sunny autumns contribute to the area being recognised as a premium quality grape and wine producing area.
The vineyard is planted on the north-east facing slopes of the property and takes full advantage of climate factors such as rainfall, temperature, humidity and sunshine hours. The black cracking Jurassic Dolomite clay soils on the vineyard, so typical of the Coal River Valley, contribute to the development of the flavour profile of Nocton Park wines.
Nocton Park Merlot 2007
Coloured garnet with purple hints and a nose of dark red fruits and pure black cherries with a hint of spice. The ripeness drives the palate - rich dark compote of dark red fruits laced with plum and chocolate.
For cellaring allow good depth and length for the wine to age gracefully for up to 7+ years. Soft tannins contribute to a long silky mouthfeel and soft finish, allowing the wine to also be enjoyed in its youth.
Alc/Vol 13.45%
Nocton Park Pinot Rose 2009
This wine has a vibrant strawberry and cherry colour with fresh berry fruits dominating the nose. Made from Pinot Noir this is a lovely wine for sharing and a delightful aperitif. There are strawberry and cherry characters with touch of sweetness that delivers length and lift with a fresh dry finish.
Aromatic wines like rose are best enjoyed young, however may be cellared for a further 2 years.
