2008 Pooley Riesling
Pooley Riesling is an exceptional medium sweet wine. It is distinctive, elegant, lightly coloured, with moderate alcohol content – quite Germanic in style.
Winemaking Notes: Pooley Late Harvest Riesling is fermented dry in tanks for the dry, crisp fruit-driven wine style that has proven to be a success for the vineyard over the past decade. This grape ripens late and is deliberately left on the vine longer than normal to concentrate the fruit flavours. Because of its simplicity and the style being achieved,it is bottled early to preserve the typical characteristics of this variety.
It is lightly coloured (pale green) with a nose of lifted and punchy floral aromas, with guava, kiwi and green appleskin characters. The palate is mouthwatering, pristine leaf and floral flavours, tight, beautifully lean and focused. 60 gms residual sugar per litre, maintaining a good balance of acid and citrus. Characteristics include toasted hazelnuts, lime rind, honey blossom and hints of lavender.
The wine could be consumed now for the fresh ripe fruit characteristics. For the wine enthusiast, this wine is highly suited for cellaring for five plus years.

2008 Coal Valley Pinot Noir
Pooley Coal River Pinot Noir is the main line of our wine production. It is made from our 20 plus year old vines from our Campania Vineyard on the banks of the Coal River. Being estate grown it reflects the unique terroir of the site and the corresponding season. With which comes the challenges to grow and produce the best quality Pinot Noir.
The wine has varietal characteristics of cherries and plums, with good complexity and with firm, balanced tannins. This wine has achieved recognition in the wine show arena and has been awarded several medals.
Winemaking Notes: This wine was fermented dry in small fermenting tanks, hand-plunged daily, left on skins for about a week, pressed out and then matured in 10% new and 90% old French oak barriques for eight months before bottling.
The wine is lightly coloured (cherry red) with a nose of fresh cherry and strawberry. There is ripe fruit and chocolate on the palate. Soft tannins, good length and mouth feel, a nicely balanced wine.
The firmer, fleshier and more persistent tannins give this style of Pinot greater ageing potential. Still young and in need of more time in the bottle. The wine should be cellared for three to five years.
