The Allwright family bought Jones River in 1997, "Jones River" is 3,000 acres of wool growing and cropping, set on the Meadowbank Lake in the Derwent Valley of Tasmania, in Hamilton. Wool growing being the main form of income for the Allwrights since 1850, but the need for diversification came with the crash of wool market and three children at school in town.
That is how Pip's Cherries were created, being one of the first farmers in the area to grow cherries, the Allwright family realised they had the perfect area. With clean water available, and perfect weather Jim and Pip Allwright decided on 1800 trees, which have thrived ever since.
