Kinvarra is primarily a grazing property of some 740 hectares, running cattle on both irrigated and dryland pasture, located in Plenty in the derwent Valley wine region of Southern Tasmania. In 1990 a small vineyard was established, yielding its first vintage in 1994. Of just one hectare, the vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir and Riesling. Each year five wines are produced - Dry Riesling, Late Harvest Riesling, a Riesling Dessert Wine, Pinot Noir and a sparkling Pinot Noir Brut. Yields vary around the eight tonne mark. Begun as a hobby, the wine enterprise has been successful and has reached commercial size. Since the first vintage in 1994, Kinvarra Estate has won numerous medals. Currently wine is available through the cellar door outlet, selected restaurants or by mail order and on-line.
