Bream Creek vineyard view

The vines at Bream Creek are spoilt with a spectacular coastal view of Marion Bay and Maria Island on the South East of Tasmania. They've also been nurtured by leading Tasmanian vigneron, Fred Peacock since the 1990s when he took over the vineyard.

First planted in 1974, it's one of the oldest vineyards in the state. Fred expanded the pinot noir and chardonnay plantings, as well as introducing sauvignon blanc and arguably the first commercial planting of the rare German grape schönburger in the southern hemisphere.

The wines are consistently winning awards, as you'll discover with these tasting notes for the Pinot Noir from 2014 and the Riesling from 2016:

2014 Bream Creek Pinot Noir

More rain than usual and a cold snap in November and December meant that flowering was disrupted, hence yields for vintage 2014 were significantly down across all southern Australian states. However, these lower yields meant that the fruit from that vintage was of excellent quality, with perfect balance between flavour and physiological ripeness.

Made in Bream Creek's traditional bold style, this cool climate pinot noir has a spicy dark cherry nose and an intense, balanced palate with flavours of dark plums and cherries, savoury spices and subtle French oak.

Food and cellaring: Perfect with roast duck or pork, this wine may be enjoyed now or confidently cellared.

2016 Bream Creek Riesling

Vintage 2016 was simply spectacular in Tasmania. Ideal growing conditions provided the perfect platform to grow fruit that was of excellent quality, with perfect balance between flavour and physiological ripeness.

Made from vines over 40 years old, this wine has a rich nose, showing lime, lemon and talc notes. The palate shows bright grapefruit, lemon juice and green apple flavours as well as crisp Tasmanian acidity. Fred likes to make his riesling with a small amount of residual sugar.

Food: The resulting wine has excellent length and is perfectly suited to a range of cuisines such as fresh Tasmanian seafood and spicy cuisines.
