Ash Mair in Launceston – Friday 1 June: Burnie – Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June
Launceston’s versh Mair is now the darling of the UK food circuit and the winner of the UK Masterchef: The Professionals 2011. Hailed as a ‘culinary genius’ by the UK press, a record three million viewers tuned in to see Ash Mair take the title last year. Judge the two-star Michelin chef, Michel Roux Jr, pronounced him “a supreme talent who pushes himself to the limit and always delivers”.
Living in London, Ash Mair regularly travels to experiment with new ingredients and get inspiration from global food styles. He describes his food as modern yet respectful of traditional methods and influenced by Spanish and Japanese flavours and techniques.
Mair will appear as guest chef at Stillwater (Launceston) and Bay Views (Burnie) restaurants to deliver a menu that would make British Masterchef judges wish they were there. It is likely Mair will be in top form cooking in a kitchen he knows well having worked at Stillwater when it was known as Ripples Cafe. Savour Tasmania is also thrilled to announce Mair will be hosting a masterclass demonstration at the Launceston Harvest Market on Saturday 2 June.
