Monash University's ensemble-in-residence and one of Melbourne's newest chamber enembles, Ensemble Liaison was formed in 2006, its debut performance for ABC Classic FM's Sunday Live series going on to feature in “The best of Sunday Live 2006”. Since then the trio's performances have been hailed as ‘spellbinding', ‘flawless', ‘stunningly blended' and ‘a revelation'.
Although less common than the more familiar piano/violin/cello piano trio for which Haydn wrote his ‘Gypsy Trio', the piano/clarinet/cello combination caught Brahms' attention, and his opus 114 is one of the greatest works composed for the combination.
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Wilma Smith joins the ensemble for this performance to round off the program with Messiaen's haunting Quartet for the End of Time. Ensemble Liaison appears for Musica Viva Tasmania in its Tasmanian debut hot on the heels of a highly successful 10-concert tour of New Zealand for Chamber Music New Zealand.
