The assault of new sights and sounds begins.
A new urban festival of music and art: MONA FOMA.
Curated by Brian Ritchie, of Violent Femmes, MONA FOMA uses music, performance and art to engage the new. The music will be edgy and challenging. So will the art, drawn from MONA's collection and beyond.
The inaugural MONA FOMA, in January 2009, will push the boundaries and entertain.
MONA FOMA is a new creative partnership: Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC), MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), Brian Ritchie and the Tasmanian Government have joined together to create and present a new Festival of Music and Art (FOMA) in Hobart.
MONA FOMA will stimulate new thought and excitement about where and how we live. This won't be a festival for the faint-of-heart but it will be worth the effort. And lot of fun.
Opening night provides a collision of contemporary, world, artistic extremes: Fiona Burnett, Ben Blakebrough, Pinky Beecroft, Duoud, BalletLab, Roaming District Church by Jensen Tjhung, Discord: Art from MONA, Eugene Chadbourne, the Zen Circus and more out front Salamanca Arts Centre. Broaden the mind, bring the family on Friday, 9 January 2009 from 7.30pm. This is a FREE event!
The festival culminates with the dark legend Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with an aural annihilation of such intensity that Moorilla couldn't get a permit to stage it - not to be missed. Tickets available from www.ticketmaster.com.au
