The fair will be held on Saturday 4 February from 10 am-3 pm at the grounds of the Middleton Community Centre, McDowall St, Middleton. It showcases the arts, crafts, talents, animals and produce of Middleton and surrounding communities.
More than 80 stalls set up throughout the grounds will feature trade displays, antiques and collectables, linen, books, native and exotic plants, local honey, fruit, vegetables and juices, preserves, sweets, photography, and homemade and artisan arts and crafts. Plenty of foods and beverages will also be available.
Entertainment and demonstrations run during the day include live music, singing and performers, shingle splitting, sheep shearing, spinning and weaving, vintage machinery, home produce, animal and reptile displays, pony rides, a merry-go-round, a kids cup cake icing competition, the scarecrow competition voting, a lucky gate prize and the drawing of the big raffle.
Another special attraction of the fair is the annual Middleton Country Fair Scarecrow Competition. The scarecrows can be seen north and south of Middleton: on fences, up paddocks and in trees. Visitors to the fair are invited to vote for their favourites, which in the past have ranged from donkey carts to pirates.
Middleton is located on the shores of Long Bay, 50 kilometres south of Hobart. The 45 minute drive along the Channel Highway meanders among picturesque paddocks and orchards and offers spectacular views of Bruny Island and the Dentrecasteaux Channel.
