The only vineyard in the Midlands area of Northern Tasmania, Barton Vineyard is located on the historic sheep grazing property Barton, 45 minutes south of Launceston. The vineyard overlooks the famous trout stream, the Macquarie River.
Barton is owned and operated by Melissa and Frank Youl. Frank is a descendant of Sir James Youl who first introduced trout into Tasmania in 1864, after a decade of attempts.
Barton produces pinot noir and riesling, and its wines are available at select restaurants and retail outlets in Tasmania. In 2011 a sparkling wine will be released.
Barton Vineyard also provides accommodation in 'The Broadwater', a unique secluded cabin/fishing lodge on private property overlooking the Macquarie River, famous for the 'red spinner hatch'. The fully equipped, self contained cabin makes an ideal getaway for families (up to 6 people), fishing enthusiasts or a romantic couple.
Easy day trips to Launceston, Hobart and the East Coast. The central location of The Broadwater makes it an ideal base for excursions to nearby lakes and other rivers.
Relax by the fire, take a walk in the bush amongst the native animal and bird life, swim the river, row a boat or enjoy a barbecue.
