Coombend vineyard was established in 1985, it is now owned by the group Gunns Pty Ltd. It is located between Swansea and Bicheno on the East Coast of Tasmania. They also run an Olive grove.
Situated on Tasmania's fabulous East Coast, Coombend Vineyard was established in 1985 on a working sheep station overlooking the spectacular scenery of Moulting Lagoon and the Freycinet Peninsula. It has been a part of Tamar Ridge Estates group since 2005.
The combination of southerly latitudes and Tasmania's truly cool climate, softened by Coombend's proximity to the ocean and its generous weather, produces elegant wines with great purity of aroma and flavour. The label depicts the original 19th century mail staging post which lies on the property.
The original 5 hectares of vineyard has now been expanded to 160 hectares. The vines are planted on a gently undulating site overlooking Moulting Lagoon with views to the Hazards and the Freycinet Peninsula - potentially one of the most visually stunning and iconic vineyard sites anywhere in Australia. As well as the extensive vineyards Coombend also boasts a plantation of some 4000 olive trees. These are predominantly oil varieties but also include an area of eating olives. The Coombend range of estate grown wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir and a Cabernet Merlot blend called the Mail Run
