Hawley House Vineyard is a boutique vineyard at Hawley Beach, near Devonport in northern Tasmania. Devonport is an hour and fifteen minutes north west of Launceston (101 kilometres/ 63 miles).
Hawley House (1878) is the original homestead of Rubicon Estate - a 150-hectare/370-acre property that encompasses a vineyard, grazing paddocks for Clydesdale horses, wetlands and a 142-hectare/350-acre wildlife sanctuary.
Established in 1982, Hawley's six-hectare/15-acre vineyard is planted with chardonnay and pinot noir grapes. The vines grow on protected, east-facing slopes beside sheltered Rubicon Bay, producing intensely floral and aromatic fruit. You can taste the range of Hawley wines at Hawley House's sister property – Hawley Gingerbread House. This quirky restaurant and cellar door for Hawley wines is located on the waterfront in Devonport, fifteen minutes from the vineyard.
A winery was built at Hawley during 2008, with the first vintage produced in 2009 under winemaker Sophie Houghton. Each year a local artist is commissioned to design a wine label for Hawley wines depicting an aspect of Hawley Estate. k by artists including Anne Marie Graham, Bill Yaxley and Tom Samek are on display in Hawley House's dining room.
