Gavin Scott is a passionate pinot noir man who grows and makes just this one variety on his tiny vineyard at Deviot on the West Tamar. His wines are consistently among the best in the state, so he will easily convince you Tasmania in general and the West Tamar in particular is the place to grow outstanding pinot noir. A self-taught winemaker, Gavin’s pharmacy training gave him a head start in understanding the technical elements.
So if you feel like a discussion about any aspect of pinot noir, from the viticultural aspects of clonal selection, pruning or trellising, to the winemaking, Gavin is your man. Fortunately for us all he’s just purchased another grape-bearing patch a few kilometres away at Robigana, so there should be even more Silk Hill available in the future.
