West Coast audiences will be delighted to experience Tasmania's only professional ballet company. Premiering at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow in 1877, Swan Lake has remained arguably the world's favourite ballet. The story of Odette, the beautiful princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer and how she is nearly saved by the love of Prince Siegfried, was not an unusual theme - bird/human metamophoses were often found in Russian folklore. The famous second act of this ballet takes us lakeside where Odette, queen of the swans, and Siegfried fall in love - only to be foiled by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart.
