Situated in the heart of Victoria's bushranger country, the Benalla Art Gallery occupies a striking modernist building by the lake in the Botanical gardens.
The Gallery presents regular exhibitions by significant artists as well as selections from the permanent collection of Australian art, including Sidney Nolan's 'Glenrowan' tapestry, from his Ned Kelly series and Arthur Streeton's 'Impression for Golden Summer'. The collection contains other Heidelberg School work, traditional, Indigenous, contemporary media, postmodernist works, and a number of works by women artists.
The Benalla Gallery Cafe offering cafe style dining featuring local wines and produce. Enjoy lunch or coffee and cake on the lakeside deck in a relaxing atmosphere complemented with great art, good food and memorable views.
Afterwards walk through the historical Benalla Botanical Gardens, view the Weary Dunlop memorial sculpture by Louis Lauman and visit the Benalla Ceramic Mural, featuring work by outstanding ceramists and artists.
