Rocky Passes is a tiny, cool climate vineyard and boutique winery specialising in northern Rhone varieties: Syrah (Shiraz) and Viognier. It sits at the southern end of Victoria's Strathbogie Ranges in the Upper Goulburn winegrowing region, a day trip from Melbourne.
Cellar door
The Rocky Passes cellar door is mud rendered inside and out, inspired by the warm, earthy ambience found in many of the cantinas Vitto and Candi have enjoyed in Argentina, Italy and Spain. It is the heart of Rocky Passes, hosting intimate wine tastings and fine food, art exhibitions, private functions and special events.
On Sunday, you can choose from the blackboard menu, perhaps a platter, pasta, Spanish soup, some tapas or seasonal delights.
The last Friday each month is Tapas night from 6pm onwards. Tapas - the small savoury delights from the tascas of Spain - are the perfect complement to a Rocky Passes red.
Art gallery
The Rocky Passes cellar door is also a small gallery - a space for local and other artists to exhibit their work.
Fine furniture-making
It is also the home of Vitto Oles' furniture-making studio.
